American politics has always interested me. I’ve watched what goes on south of border ever since I can remember. Donald Trump has accomplished great things as a businessman, he truly has and that is undeniable. He’s built his brand skillfully and brilliantly. He’s been successful and has been the kind of guy my bantam hockey coach would say has lived up to his favorite saying, “the game is played on the scoreboard”.
Things, though, may change if he doesn’t clean up his act and fast. Let’s look at the polls for a moment. They all say he’s winning and that he is likely to become the Republican nominee for President of the United States of America. He’s positioning himself as a straight-talking successful businessman who’s refusing to be politically correct. So far, so good.
We all like straight talkers as long as it does not become offensive. We all want someone to speak his/her mind be it in business, politics or life but who will support someone who is so direct and frank to the point of becoming insulting or perceived as being insulting? Mr. Trump, you must remember this. You have in front of you a golden opportunity to hold the highest office in the land, an opportunity that is clearly within reach but you’re playing with fire! You still have time to salvage things but that requires you to act “presidential” effective immediately. You will make a big mistake if you underestimate the power of the media, who are currently finding you “entertaining” and a “breath of fresh air”.
The honeymoon with the media and the American people is fast-approaching the end. You have before you this small window of opportunity to start carefully choosing and weighing your words because doing so IS important.
If you want to achieve your end, I recommend you start doing so now or else the next time you look up at the scoreboard, you will have lost the game.
